Here's what's happening this week in sports:

Tuesday: Boys' basketball is home against McDonogh. 3:30 B game/4:30 A game
Squash travels to St. Paul's to play at 3:00 (check with your child to see if they have signed upfor this match)
Squash 6th graders at Meadow Mill to play an inner squad match, 3:00

Wednesday: Girls' basketball @ St. Paul's 3:30 A/4:30B
Squash at RPCS courts, which are across the alley from the fire station in Roland Park, 4:00, no bus, meet there at 4:45.

Thursday: Wrestling at Calvert vs. St. Ignatius, 3:45
Squash vs. BL at Meadow Mill, 2:50(check with your child to see if they have signed up for this match)

Dear All,

Welcome back to school. It was a wonderful break, but I am ready for sports! This week we slowly get back to the rigors of winter sports, but hang on to your hat as things start to get crazy next week. However, for the week of January 3-6, this is what we have:

Tomorrow, January 4th, the girls' basketball team plays Bryn Mawr at Calvert, 3:30 for the A team, and 4:30 for the B game.

On Thursday, boys' basketball plays Jemicy at home, 3:30 for the A team, and 4:30 for the B team. Also on Thursday, the squash coed team plays McDonogh, at Greenspring, from 3:00 to 4:10.

On Friday, the girls' squash team will play Bryn Mawr at Bare Hills, 4:30. We meet there, no bus! The boys play Friends on Friday, at home, 3:30 for the B team, and 4:30 for the A team.

The 6th Grade Squash Team starts practices on Monday, November 14th at 7:00AM at Meadow Mill Athletic Club. The 7th and 8th Grade Squash Team starts on Tuesday, November 15th.
The 6th Grade practices Mondays and Fridays, while the 7th and 8th Graders practice Tuesday through Thursday.
All other sports begin on Monday, November 28th, right after the Thanksgiving Weekend.

Fall Sports Come to a Close!

This week Fall Sports come to a close with Boys' Soccer playing Ridgely at 3:30 at Calvert, and tomorrow, the Football Team plays at Friends at 3:15. Why the earlier time? Daylight Savings has kicked in, and we want as much daylight as possible to play the Quakers!

Good afternoon! I feel like it is still last spring with all of this rain! Fear not, fall sports begin today and the children are beside themselves! We will be meeting as a school in the gym at 3:30, do our Dynamic Warm-Up as a school, and then break into our teams. I am looking forward to another rewarding year of Calvert Sports, and today is the first step. MA

The girls' lacrosse games at Friends were cancelled today, but softball played on at Friends' Medfield. Their game starts at 4:00, and I am looking forward to going to see the second half of the game. Hope your plans weren't rained out as well. Spring Sports

Hello from the athletic office! Please check out the pictures taken today on the top field as ALL spring sport athletes that were practicing today headed to the field for their dynamic warm-up. No more standing around in a circle calling out numbers and stretching cold muscles! We now dynamically warm our bodies up for practices as teams, encouraging each other, and yes, laughing at each other a little, too! MA

Boys Basketball vs. McDonogh: What a game!!!

The Boys' Basketball Teams played McDonogh yesterday and both teams looked great. It was the B Teams' last game, but the A team has one more game next week against St. Ignatius on Thursday, while the Girls' A Team plays their last game on Tuesday against McDonogh. All of the teams have had a great winter season, and it is hard to believe that Spring Sports begin on March 1, 2011...rumor has it that the baseball team may be throwing and catching the week before, though...stay tuned.

Dear All,

I hope that you have had the opportunity to see some of the basketball, squash, or wrestling that has been happening this season. All of the teams are up and running, and really doing well. Today squash travels to RPCS's courts across from the fire station in Roland Park. That match starts at 4:00 and should be fifnished by 5:30 at the latest. Girs basketball and boys's A basketball both play tomorrow: the girls head to McDonogh, while the boys go to St. Paul'. Best of luck to all of the athletes this week.

Dear All,

Please have a safe and happy winter break this year. While you are at home, call some friends and head to Meadow Mill to play squash, or over to the Y to play some basketball. Remember not to sit on the couch and eat trashy food! Keep active, eat right, and get plenty of sleep; but remember to work out, too! See you next year:)

Dear All,

The winter season begins today in earnest. All teams will be practicing and the winter season is shaping up to be exciting! Right off the bat, the girls' basketball team, coached by Mollet, Swiss, and Lawrence, head to Bryn Mawr on Tuesday for a scrimmage. B team coaches Doss and Strom travel to BMS as well, playing at 4:30. Good luck, Lady Hoopsters!
Wrestling is under way, and Coach Broy has seven dedicated wrestlers. Squash numbers this year were at an all time high with 54 participants. We have so many players that we have to go to five days a week. The 6th graders are on a Developmental team, practicing on Mondays and Fridays, while the 7th and 8th graders practice Tuesday through Thursday.

Good morning. I am feeling under the weather today, so blogging from the comfort of my couch. The cross-country meet scheduled for today has been cancelled, and as of right now, will not be made up.

The Faculty Meeting is on for the afternoon, so there are no practices after school today!

At least we don't have games for today, September 30th, but the soccer game against BMS looks shaky for tomorrow. The athletes did a great job yesterday on the fields. Cross country had a great race, boys' and girls' soccer both won their games, and football had a great contest against tough BL. Check out some football shots from the first game!

September 20th-24th:

Monday: Boys soccer, both Black and Gold teams, travel to St. James for a Play Day beginning at 3:30. This should run until 5:30, and the bus will return to Calvert after 6:00PM

Tuesday: Practices

Wednesday: bsoccer to Seminary Park to play Ridgely MS. Team playing(Black or Gold) TBD
cross country @ St. James 3:30
Thursday: Field hockey vs. Park A team : 3:45 B team 4:45

This week marks the first full week of practices for sports. Next week, the games begin and I hope that you are able to make it to many of them. Calvert sports is pleased to announce our partnership with Positive Coaching Alliance. Look for the PCA banner at home games. Their mission is to "transform youth sports so sports can transform youth".

Welcome to my blog, and welcome to another year of Calvert Athletics! Sport practices begin tomorrow, Tuesday, September 7th at 3:15. Sixth through Eighth graders are eligible to play sports, and I encourage all students in these grades to play a sport this year for Calvert. Please feel free to watch some of the practices before picking up your athlete by 4:30PM. Football players have practice until 4:30, so they can be picked up in the Atrium. After 4:30, all students must check-in to study hall in the Atrium. I hope to see you on the fields! MA

Two weeks of craziness, and then it's over...

May is here. I can't believe it. This was the fastest year so far in my 22 years of teaching at Calvert. It has also been one of the best years for our sports program. Many thanks to all of the coaches and athletes who make us so strong. Have a great two weeks of sports, and I hope to see you at the sports banquet on May 19th, at 6:00PM.

Those Boys of Summer were at Druid Hill yesterday taking on the St. Paul Crusaders. It was a picture-perfect day for baseball, and the boys played beautifully...

First Track and Field Meet a Huge Success!

Yesterday, Calvert held its first ever track and field meet. It was a perfect day; not too hot, with a little breeze. It seems to me that we had about 65 athletes participating in the events, which included the mile, 800, 400, hurdles and sprints. Many thanks to the field crew: Kev, Barb, and Steve! There is another home track meet scheduled for May 5th, so come out and enjoy the afternoon.

Well, we had beautiful weather over the break, and now that we are back to school, it is a little damp and chilly. The fields are still a little wet, too, but Kevin has put some lines down for the baseball and softball teams, and the lax goals are strung, so, PLAY BALL! Let's hope for some nice weather by the end of the week, and good luck to the girls' B lax team as they play their first game on Thursday against Beth Tfiloh at Pikesville Middle School, Old Court and 7 Mile Lane

So, how do you like the new blog colors? They make me happy because they look so spring-like. It was wonderful for all of the athletes to get outside today and work in the sunshine. Everyone just seems like they are in a better mood. This week, we only have sports on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, we have Hoops for Heart, and Thursday, we have a faculty meeting. That is a good question, and one that was asked of me today by Kevin and Barb, the awesome duo that line our fields. I guess they could put orange lines down on top of the snow...at any rate, spring sports will begin on Monday, from 3:15 until 4:15, so make sure to plan your week accordingly: snacks in the car for your favorite athlete for after practices:)

As I sit in my comfortable chair and watch the snow fall outside of my window, I realize that because of the snow, the winter sports season is over. All of the basketball games for the rest of the week were just cancelled via email, and now I am dreaming of the green fields of spring. So get out your bats, mitts, cleats, and lax sticks: spring sports start on March 1, 2010!

Both the girls' teams and the boys' teams are off to a strong start this season. Each have a couple of tough games this week and next, so see if you can come and cheer them on this week. Tomorrow, the girls take on St. James, while the boys travel to St. James. Next week each team has two games, so check the Athletics website for more information.
